Solar Water Heating in India

  • 7. Affordable Clean Energy
  • 13. Climate Action

The Nuetech programme distributes Solar Water Heaters (SWH) in India and is managed by Nuetech Solar, one of the largest manufacturers of SWH.

India is gifted with abundant solar resources. Yet, 90% of urban residents in Western India use electricity to heat water. This accounts for 20% to 30% of electricity consumption which emits a large amount of carbon dioxide and represents a financial burden to families. In a country with about 300 clear sunny days in a year, this practice is also a huge waste of energy.

However, due to low electricity prices and relatively cheap electric water heaters, SWH are still not widely used. To effectively distribute the use of SWH, Nuetech Solar in association with Carbonbay raise awareness and educate customers to increase the use of cleaner, more efficient, and cheaper solutions to heating.

Project impacts and benefits:

  • 150,000 tCO2e saved annually.
  • Cheap and reliable hot water in areas that are often struck by black-outs.
  • Capacity building and awareness raising to distribute clean energy technologies.
  • 60,000 Solar Water Heaters manufactured to date

The project participants Nuetech Solar and Carbonbay welcome any kind of comments, questions or requests related to the project activities or the certificates. For more information contact info@carbonbay.com.
