Communicate your Climate and Nature Action

Climate and nature action deserves recognition.

Communicating progress and positive impacts for climate and nature allows organisations to show what they are doing, recognise the people and partners helping to deliver it, and encourage others to take action too. Credible claims help build trust, demonstrate accountability and show how an organisation’s actions contribute to wider climate goals. The strongest communications are grounded in evidence and clear about the contribution being made.

As regulations and policy expectations evolve, organisations face increasing scrutiny over how they communicate their climate action. Rather than suggesting that emissions have been cancelled out or fully resolved, organisations should use clear, measured language that accurately reflects what they have done and the contribution it makes.

Toward collective contributions

Climate change is a global crisis that requires coordinated action from public and private sectors. Leading organisations are therefore moving beyond simple, binary or headline claims towards more nuanced contribution-focused claims that explain what they are doing or funding, and how these actions support wider climate and nature goals.

This approach can help organisations avoid overclaiming. While working towards long-term climate and nature targets, organisations will continue to have an impact on the climate. Emerging policy frameworks, such  the EU Green Claims Directive,  reflect the growing expectation that environmental claims should be supported by clear, verifiable evidence.

This underscores the importance of organisations taking full responsibility for unabated emissions during their journey towards net zero through Ongoing Emissions Responsibility (OER). OER provides a framework for doing this, while supporting credible communication about the actions and investments made along the way.

Communications and claims that are supported by credible action can help organisations build trust, demonstrate progress and receive recognition for their contribution. They also help partners and peers see what is possible and encourage further action.

By combining meaningful action with transparent communication, organisations can celebrate progress, acknowledge ongoing responsibility and contribute to a climate and nature transition that benefits everyone.
