Fraction of Non-Renewable Biomass (fNRB): Assessment for Peru

  • CONSULTATION PERIOD 30 Mar 2016 - 30 Apr 2016
  • SCOPE ACTIVITY Climate ActionAffordable and Clean EnergyIndustry, innovation and Infrastructure

We are working with Inter-American Development Bank and World Vision Australia to promote the development of improved cookstove (ICS) activities in Peruvian Andean communities through a project called Financing efficient cookstoves for rural Andean communities. By building upon learned experience from existing cookstove initiatives, this project has reduced the complexity of project implementation and increased project efficiency.

As a part of this project, Microsol has assessed the fraction of non-renewable biomass (fNRB) value for Peru, which provides a mathematical baseline for measuring the impact of specific projects. This has been submitted for Gold Standard approval.

The fNRB assessment requires extensive collection of consistent and reliable data, which is not always available in developing countries. Therefore, determining the project-specific fNRB value is systematically uncertain, can involve high cost and represent a barrier in the project development.

Microsol has assessed the fNRB value for Peru at a national level to help ease the process for project developers and provide a consistent and standardized value. The fNRB assessment follows the assessment approach provided in the latest version of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodology AMS-II.G. The estimated fNRB value for Peru at country level is 76.43%.

The background calculation and assessment reports are available for stakeholder review and comment down below.
