At COP 28, the "Waste to Zero" initiative was introduced to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the waste management sector, particularly landfill methane.
Waste management methods fall into two main categories:
- Landfill gas capture for flare/use
- Waste treatment methods that avoid landfill disposal (e.g., composting, incineration)
