Gold Standard is consulting on a new methodology which covers the avoided installation, or replacement, of fossil fuel generators with new renewable energy systems. The activity aligns with the Gold Standard's Just Transition requirements and leads to emission reductions by displacing electricity that would have otherwise been generated through the combustion of fossil fuels (e.g., diesel, gasoline, or natural gas). The methodology covers the installation and operation of new renewable energy technologies, including but not limited to: solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind power systems, with or without integrated energy storage (e.g., batteries). The methodology can be applied to a range of contexts, providing power for e.g., off-grid communities, commercial and industrial facilities, and institutional or residential buildings that rely on captive fossil fuel generators for primary, supplementary, or backup power.
