This document is intended for use as a tool to facilitate project development in line with the Just Transition (JT) principle. The use of this tool is mandatory only when required by the applicable methodology.
The use of this tool requires compliance with the GS4GG Safeguarding Principles and Requirements and Stakeholder Consultation and Engagement Requirements. The purpose of additional requirements is to enhance risk assessment and address safeguards to prevent or mitigate adverse impacts, aligning with both the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals for a fair and equitable transition.
This document was first published for public consultation in December 2023 and is being reposted for consultation now, in line with the open consultations for the related methodologies which will apply these requirements: 1) Joined-up Sustainable Transition (JUST): Coal Decommissioning, 2) Joined-up Sustainable Transition (JUST): Fossil Fuel Generators
Gold Standard has taken all feedback from the previous consultation into account and now welcomes any further comment before first publication.
Following a previous consultation from 5th Nov – 5th Dec 2024, the methodology has beenrevised in line with the latest high integrity quality criteria and foralignment with the Paris Agreement. These changes include:
- Conservativebaseline accounting, below business-as-usual
- Comprehensiveactivity emissions accounting, including full life-cycle emissions for newinfrastructure
- Rigorousleakage assessments, including market leakage
- Enhancedadditionality and applicability requirements
The Gold Standard welcome all feedback on the updated methodology, particularly relating to the new elements covered above.
