The Gold Standard and the consortium of partners (NIRAS, Perspectives and SouthSouth North) under the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) programme, have developed a methodology targeted at project activities related to the preservation of food, using techniques that emit low levels of GHG while maintaining quality, durability and nutritional value. By introducing renewable energy or energy efficient technologies into existing or new facilities, this methodology allows project activities to claim emission reductions based on the amount of food preserved either in the project scenario or up to a minimum level of service. The methodology “The Gold Standard suppressed demand small-scale methodology for energy use for low GHG food preservation” was open for public consultation to ensure that the methodology was conservative, easy to apply and widely applicable to project activities.
