Requirements for addressing leakage in methodologies-Consultation-cover

Gold Standard presents a draft methodology standard for addressing leakage emissions in GHG accounting methodologies. This document outlines the requirements for identifying and addressing leakage emissions in Gold Standard for the Global Goals (GS4GG) approved methodologies. It aligns with the key principles outlined in the updated Procedure for Development, Revision and Clarification of Methodologies and Methodological Tools - Gold Standard for the Global Goals. Additionally, it is consistent with the requirements set by the Requirements for Methodology Development – Gold Standard for the Global Goals that aligns with the relevant requirements under the Article 6.4 mechanism of the Paris Agreement.
Key requirements proposed for addressing leakage emissions include identifying potential leakage sources; avoiding or minimising leakage by applying appropriate approaches, including addressing any remaining leakage by discounting credited volumes when necessary; and requiring activity developers to list and address all potential leakage sources, justifying any exclusions.
Stakeholders are invited to  provide feedback on the structured approach presented in the document with a view to address leakage in GS4GG methodologies.
