1. Why the change? The energy transition today depends on integrated systems, renewable generation working alongside storage, grid flexibility, distributed energy resources, efficiency measures green hydrogen and fossil-fuel phaseout, not on generation technologies in isolation. We'll walk through the rationale for moving to a single, modular framework that reflects how modern energy systems are actually being built and decarbonised, and how it aligns with the Paris Agreement.
2. What's new in eligibility for renewable energy projects? Under the previous Renewable Energy Activity Requirements, eligibility for grid-connected renewables was determined by country income categories and grid penetration thresholds. Under the new ESE requirements, eligibility is instead anchored to whether an activity supports mitigation outcomes in the conditional (support-dependent) component of the host country's NDC. We'll explain this shift, what it means in practice, and how transition arrangements apply to existing and previously certified activities.
3. Applying the G-RESET methodology. A closer look at how G-RESET quantifies emission reductions across five modules, Greenfield Generation, Brownfield and Asset Optimisation, Energy Storage and Time-shifting, Captive Generation, and Virtual Power Plants, including conservative baseline-setting, downward adjustment factors, temporal accounting for storage, life-cycle emissions treatment, and digital MRV requirements.
