Gold Standard connects carbon markets with next-generation Impact Registry

The new platform, delivered in partnership with Trovio, will improve connectivity with national registries, exchanges and marketplaces while maintaining full traceability of credits.

Gold Standard has announced a next-generation Impact Registry, delivered in partnership with Trovio, to modernise and strengthen the system that underpins the issuance, transfer and retirement of Gold Standard carbon credits.

The Gold Standard Impact Registry tracks the certification status of climate projects and records the lifecycle of issued products such as carbon credits, playing a central role in ensuring transparency, credibility and traceability across the market. The upgraded registry will maintain the integrity and continuity of all existing registry data, including accounts, credit holdings and user access.

Built on an API-first architecture, Trovio's platform CorTenX will enable core functions, from issuance to transfer and retirement, to be accessed through secure, standardised APIs. Underpinned by cryptographically verifiable infrastructure, it is designed to provide tamper-resistant auditability, full chain-of-custody traceability, and secure transaction management for environmental assets. This will allow external systems such as national registries, marketplaces and exchanges to connect directly, enabling seamless integration and easier cross-border interoperability.

For users, this represents a significant improvement in functionality and reliability without requiring changes to certification rules or processes. The new registry will enable a more connected market experience, making it easier to list, discover and transact credits across platforms while maintaining full traceability and integrity.

“As carbon markets move into the next generation, the infrastructure supporting them must also evolve. This partnership enables the next evolution of registry systems, designed for interoperability, scalability and transparency, while maintaining the integrity and credibility the market depends on.”

– Margaret Kim, Chief Executive Officer at Gold Standard

The new platform is expected to deliver benefits across the market ecosystem.

  • Project developers will see enhanced visibility of project data and more efficient engagement across the wider registry ecosystem.
  • Buyers and credit holders will benefit from stronger transparency, traceability and reporting capabilities to support internal disclosures and regulatory requirements.
  • Traders and market participants will see improved connectivity with exchanges and marketplaces, supporting more efficient transactions and settlement processes.

The partnership builds on Trovio’s experience delivering registry infrastructure for environmental markets, including for the Australian Government, the registry for the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism, and other environmental market initiatives.

“Gold Standard has played a foundational role in establishing trust and integrity across environmental markets globally. We are proud to support the evolution of its registry infrastructure at a time when carbon markets are becoming increasingly interconnected and operationally complex. CorTenX was designed to provide the interoperability, transparency, and auditability required for the next generation of environmental market infrastructure.”

– Jon Deane, Chief Executive Officer at Trovio

The launch is planned for Q4 2026, and a structured testing and onboarding period will take place before to ensure a smooth transition.

Gold Standard will work closely with registry users and integration partners to ensure the new platform meets stakeholder needs and supports future market connectivity. Users will receive communication before any changes occur. Existing accounts and credit holdings will be securely migrated, with no disruption to credit ownership.
